Sintra beaches are once again recognized with “Golden Quality”
Praia Grande, Adraga, Maçãs, Magoito, and São Julião once again received the “Golden Quality” award, awarded by Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation, for the excellence of the quality of its waters.
The list now released points to the attribution of this award to 393 national beaches, 47 fewer than last year, of which 327 beaches are coastal, 56 inland, and 10 are in transition.
The Quercus distinction recognizes the quality of the water, namely the five beaches in the Municipality of Sintra as “Excellent” and its classification is attributed to respecting the following criteria:
- Excellent water quality in the last four bathing seasons;
- All analyses carried out in the last bathing season must have shown better results than the values defined for the 95th percentile of Annex I of the Bathing Water Directive;
- In the last bathing season, there must not have been any type of occurrence/warning against bathing, prohibition of bathing, and/or temporary prohibition of the beach.
Every year, at the start of the bathing season, Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation, awards the “Gold Quality” award and classifies national beaches according to the quality of the bathing water.
Quercus’ assessment does not involve any application process and is based solely on the quality of the water on the beaches. The information used is national public information provided by the Portuguese Environment Agency.
