About Samuel Urria
Born in the heart of the nation, between the Caramulo and Estrela mountains, Urria brings the blues of the Dão Delta to the stage. From rural legend to urban legend, everything is right: half man, half gospel, hands of fado and feet of rock and roll. With a background marked by punk, rock’n’roll and low-fi aesthetics, Samuel Urria has gained notoriety since 2008. His “official” discography under his own name, in addition to the work released at the end of 2024, “2000 A.D.”, includes four LPs and two EPs – “Canções do Pós-Guerra_solo” (2021); “Canções do Pós-Guerra” (2020); “Marca Atroz” (2018); “Carga de Ombro“ (2016); “O Grande Medo do Pequeno Mudo” (2013); and “Nem Tocava Lhe” (2009). Already in the “unofficial” and associated with the FlorCaveira label, two CD-Rs and an EP-R – “O Caminho Ferroviário Estreito”; “Em Bruto”; and “Descondecoração de Samuel Úria”. In addition, collaborations in the projects “Velhas Glórias”, “Ninivitas” or “Maria Clementina”. Alongside vibrant and unforgettable live performances, Samuel Úria stands out among his peers for his unique use of his mother tongue; his songs can be found in the repertoire of Ana Bacalhau, Ana Moura, António Zambujo, Cindy Kat, Clã, Cláudia Pascoal or Marta Hugon, establishing him as the most interesting singer-songwriter of the 21st century. Still in the field of composition, he had the opportunity to be responsible for the soundtrack of the SIC series “Prisão Domiciliária” and, for a staging by Sandra Barata Belo based on a story by Afonso Cruz, he composed for the play “Cochinchina”.
