Prestige of ESHTE creates new record for international internships

The institution sees 25 per cent growth in the number of hospitality and tourism students requested by hotel chains from countries like Greece, Spain or Dubai.

The Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism continues to cement its position as the reference institution in Portugal, in its spectrum of activities and has been reinforcing international prestige, This has led to the growing interest of hotel chains in receiving second and third-year students from undergraduate courses on paid internships.

In the academic year 2023/24, 112 of the 754 trainees were placed outside the country, in 16 latitudes, representing a growth of about 25 per cent (compared to the 90 international internships of the academic year 2022/23). On the destination podium, Greece – mainly the Sani/Ikos and Nana Hotels groups -, welcomed more than half of the students (53%), followed by Spain (18%) and Dubai (10%), following a protocol concluded with the prestigious group Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts.

ESHTE students are also completing paid training periods in Morocco, Cape Verde, England, France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, St. Martin, São Tomé and Príncipe, Northern Ireland, Germany, Austria and Denmark.

“At ESHTE, internships are mandatory in the second year because they are fundamental to students’ adaptation to the context of the labour market and often result in work proposals after the completion of courses. Our applied education is highly valued by the market and the demand for our students continues to far exceed the offer, given the quality of the training they receive, for example in the area of languages and interpersonal communication”, says Carlos Brandão, President of the institution.

The 112 students to complete international internships come from the five degrees of the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism, with predominance of the course in Hotel Management and Management, followed by Food Production in Catering, Tourism Management, Tourist Information and Leisure Management and Tourist Animation.

Celebrating 33 years of activity, but always at the forefront of innovation, ESHTE continues to deal with the constant demand for its students. This week, the institution opened doors for a Placement International event.

In the session, held at the Tourism Technology Hub Incubator Auditorium (CIBT), the Swiss recruitment and placement company specialized in the luxury hospitality industry presented a portfolio with several international internship options, with a focus on two Ritz-Carlton hotels located in Florida, USA.

“International demand is a trend that has been increasing and indicators point to continued growth over the next few years. On the one hand, it is a reflection of an increasingly globalized world. On the other, it reflects the students’ desires. It is not only financial issues that move them, but the desire to have a broader vision, to work for the first time outside the country and, returning, evolve in the career with more world, with greater knowledge about different realities”, summarizes João Pronto, Adjunct professor and coordinator of internships at the institution.
