Primavera Sound Porto dominates the media space

MEO Kalorama rises seven positions in the media ranking

Primavera Sound Porto is the leader of the Cision Ranking of the Summer Festivals Marathon, with 986 news.

The festival, which took place between the 7th and 11th of June, won the first position in the ranking and achieved more than five hours of exposure on national television and radio, with several plays and live broadcasts. The 9th of July registers a greater volume of information, boosted by news about Rosalía’s concert the day before and about the lineup for the day itself, which featured the Pet Shop Boys.

NOS Alive dropped one position compared to the previous month, registering 457 news items. A little over a week before the first day of the festival, the last names on the poster for Palco Fado Cafe, Pórtico and Palco Heineken, and WTF Clubbing were announced. The return of Palco Comédia and the programming of Palco Coreto, curated by Arruada, also contributed to the volume of information.

Closing the podium, MEO Kalorama rose to third place in the ranking in June, with 217 news items, where the return of Blur to Portugal and the announcement of new names for the poster were the topics with the most media attention.

With a difference of just 10 news, Super Bock Super Rock occupies the fourth position, with 186 news, followed by Sumol Summer Fest, with 176 mentions. In descending order, this ranking also includes MEO Sudoeste, MEO Marés Vivas, CA Vilar de Mouros Festival, Vodafone Paredes de Coura, and Cool Jazz Fest.

Results of the Summer Festivals Marathon on Social Media

In terms of social platforms, in June NOS Alive remained in first place in the ranking, with 1,021 mentions and more than 89,000 interactions. Twitter accounted for 79% of all references, with the search for tickets for the festival being one of the most recurrent themes among users of the platform. This is followed by Primavera Sound Porto, occupying second place with 843 publications and the highest number of interactions achieved, with close to 170 thousand reactions, of which 80% were on Instagram. The audience potential was also the highest among the various monitored festivals, reaching more than 13 million impressions. The sharing of moments and emotions of various users during the festival and the publication of content by media bodies on their platforms contributed to the results.

Rounding out the top 3, and in line with the media ranking, is MEO Kalorama with 288 mentions and around 33 thousand interactions. The disclosure of new names for the poster was the main subject disclosed. Names like Blur, The Prodigy, and Lil Silva are some that stood out. Most mentions are promoted by media platforms and the event pages themselves.

Sumol Summer Fest ranks fourth with 202 publications, followed by MEO Sudoeste with 173 mentions. At the bottom of the ranking, in descending order, are Super Bock Super Rock, O Sol da Caparica, CA Vilar de Mouros, MEO Marés Vivas, and RFM SOMNII.

About the Summer Festivals Marathon – Cision Ranking
The Summer Festival Marathon – Ranking Cision is a study carried out on an ongoing basis by Cision, which analyzes the evolution of media coverage of various music festivals held in Portugal, throughout the year.

The work developed by Cision within the scope of the festivals was recognized in the third edition of the Iberian Festival Awards, where Cision was distinguished with the Iberian prize ‘Best Service Provider’.

The media performance achieved by each festival is calculated taking into account the Cision communication evaluation methodology, which considers the number of identified news items, the space or airtime occupied, and the viewing opportunities, taking into account the audiences reached.

The object of analysis of this study is all the news referring to the different festivals, published in the Portuguese editorial space, in more than two thousand means of social communication (television, radio, online, and press). In this case, the ranking reflects the result from the 1st to the 30th of June 2023, with the different festivals being ordered by the position achieved.
