Prime Video reveals the trailer for Expats, the six-episode miniseries directed by Lulu Wang, based on the internationally successful book The Expatriates, written by Janice Y. K. Lee. The miniseries will premiere the first two episodes on January 26, 2024, with a new episode every week until the end of February 23, 2024. Expats will premiere exclusively on Prime Video as part of the Prime subscription. Amazon Prime subscribers in Portugal can enjoy offers, free shipping and entertainment, all in the same subscription for just €4.99 per month or €49.90 per year.
Expats stars Oscar and Emmy winner Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies, The Undoing), Sarayu Blue (Never Have I Ever, #SexPact), Ji-young Yoo (Moxie, Smoking Tigers), Brian Tee (Chicago Med, Ninja Turtles: Breaking Shadows) and Jack Huston (Casa Gucci, Fargo).
Set in the vibrant and tumultuous Hong Kong of 2014, Expats centres on three American women—Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo)—whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy. The series questions privileges and explores what happens when social norms are broken, the limits of behaviour are crossed and the line between victim and culprit is eliminated. Completing the cast are Brian Tee, who plays the role of Clarke, Margaret’s husband, and Jack Huston, who plays the role of David, Hilary’s husband.
Lulu Wang is the creator, director and screenwriter of Expats. Wang also executive produces with Daniele Melia for Local Time. Nicole Kidman is also executive producing the series with Per Saari for Blossom Films (Rabbit Hole, Nine Perfect Strangers) along with Australian screenwriter Alice Bell (The Beautiful Lie), who was the first to join the series. Theresa Park for Per Capita Productions (Life After Yang) and Stan Wlodkowski (The Old Guard) are also executive producers. Vera Miao (Two Sentence Horror Stories) and Gursimran Sandhu (Game of Thrones) are screenwriters, along with Wang and writer Janice Y. K. Lee, who wrote the series together with Bell and Wang.
