Brazil/JACC Salon Programming
for the second quarter of 2025
The work of requalification of the Coimbra room does not stop the programming that includes Filipe Sambado, Leo Middea, Tainá, Jorge Cruz, Romeu Bairos and the SOUTH project of Bernardo Couto, Bernardo Moreira and Luís Figueiredo.
The activities of the second quarter of the Salão Brazil/JACC reserve a special place for mediation and participation, marks the initial stage of the process that will lead, soon, to the intervention for requalification of the building. Regular programming, however, does not slow down, offering concerts by Filipe Sambado, Guinga, Leo Middea, Tainá and Jorge Cruz, among many others.
The year 2025 marks a crucial moment in the history of Salão Brazil, about to mark the 100 years of the building and after, at the end of 2024, having entered the universe of municipal cultural equipment. Now comes the time to start co-creating your future with all stakeholders, through a participatory process framed in EMCCINNO, a project from Horizon Europa, from which Jazz ao Centro Clube is a partner and in which Salão Brazil is one of the “pilots“.
In the context of EMCCINNO, and with the active involvement of the Centro de Estudos Social da Universidade de Coimbra (CES) – which is one of the other partners of the European project – it will be possible to follow the path of transformation of Salão Brazil in topics such as social impact, organizational model and deepening commitment to environmental sustainability.
For José Miguel Pereira, President of Jazz ao Centro Clube, “this is a truly exceptional period, in which we have the opportunity to reinvent the Salon Brazil, from the space it occupies – with the requalification of the building – to the role that cultural equipment of this type can play in the city of Coimbra. The fact that we are entering this process at a time when 100 years are celebrated (in 2026) since the building hosted the first commercial spaces and became an integral part of the memory of the Lower Coimbra, creates the perfect context to relaunch the Salon Brazil with eyes set on the future. “.
A central moment of this participatory process takes place on 30 April, when an Open Day will be promoted, with several activities taking place in the building and its neighborhood. The date’s choice is that the 22nd Anniversary of Jazz to the Club Center and International Jazz Day are also celebrated.
With regard to regular programming, the names of Guinga and Jorge Cruz acquire natural prominence in the very diverse set of almost 20 concerts that will take place in the salon of Lower Coimbra over these 3 months.
The current Portuguese music occupies a good portion of the program, with concerts by Filipe Sambado (4 April), Leo Middea (11 April), Victor Torpedo and the Pop Kids (12 April), Tainá (8 May), Jorge Cruz (9 May) and Romeo Bairos (16 May).
The place of creation will be occupied by the Re:Percussion Trio, who will be in artistic residence between 18 and 23 May, and on this last day will make a public presentation of the result of the work.
The younger audiences are also included in the programming, with the continuity of the partnership with The Escola da Noite/Teatro da Cerca de S. Bernardo, with cross-programming directed to the young public. Zeca Afonso, the chest nail boy, has sessions scheduled at the Salon Brazil for schools and families on April 24 and 25. On 2 and 3 May, it is the time of the Educational Service of JACC/Salão Brazil, take the bass and voice of Miguel Calhaz at the Teatro da Cerca de S. Bernardo.
One last note for the trip to the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, with the JACC/Salão Brazil in charge of the proposals of the associated music program Anozero Solo Show ’25, by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller.
The entire programming of the first quarter may be found on the Jazz ao Centro Clube website. Tickets are available at the BOL online ticket office and in the Baixa de Coimbra shops: Gang of Four and Lucky Lux. In the room, tickets can be purchased 30 minutes before the start of each show.
