dstgroup, União de Ffreguesias de Nogueira, Fraião e Lamaçães and Tin.Bra aim to encourage young people to participate in cultural activities
Students from the Alberto Sampaio and D. Maria II school groups, in Braga, will be able to enter the world of theater through the cultural project “dst theater on stage in the parish”, which will provide, for 10 months, several theater workshops to students from the Union of Parishes of Nogueira, Fraião, and Lamaçães.
The theatrical project aims to encourage and foster artistic practice among young people and is the result of a partnership between dstgroup, União de Freguesias, school groups, and Tin.Bra – theater company.
So far, the project has received dozens of entries from students, aged between 11 and 15, from both groups, which has already made it possible to set up three theater groups: two in Lamaçães and one in Nogueira/Fraião.
“We cannot stop fighting for what is right and for cultural habits, especially among the youngest. We have to rescue young people from the hijacking of social media, the civilization of spectacle, and exposure to anxiety. We have to provide them with the real stage, that of the theater, the place where citizenship was invented. Culture and, in particular, theater are the tools that allow us to reach infinity and overcome the impossible. That’s why I insist on arts literacy. Only through art will we have more competent young people in their jobs and more competitive companies”, reveals José Teixeira, president of dstgroup and promoter of this project.
In the medium term, the project’s objective is to create a theater group in that Parish Union, since it has a very high number of young people and includes two of the largest school groups in Braga.
For now, the workshops financed by dstgroup will take place in the auditorium of the parish council in Nogueira, which has a privileged space for rehearsals and the practice of dramatic expression, but also at E.B. from Lamaçães.
“This project was designed to capture the population through schools. The parish of Lamaçães has a history and tradition linked to the theatre, which unfortunately has been lost over time, but which we now want to recover with our young people”, underlines the president of the Junta de Nogueira, José Pinto de Matos.
The theater workshops will last for 10 months, also respecting breaks and school holidays.
