Puppets from five countries in festival in the city of Alcobaça
Eleven companies from five countries present in Alcobaça, from 04 to 07 October, 26 puppet shows, integrated in the international festival that for more than 20 years invades the city.
The festival Marionetas na Cidade, organized by the company S.A.Marionetas – Teatro & Bonecos, is “one of the oldest events dedicated to the art of the puppet”, in portugal, this year to fulfill the 21st edition in Alcobaça.
The initiative that the company considers to show “the best that is done here and abroad”, in terms of theater of dolls, counts in this edition with the participation of 11 companies from various points of Portugal and countries like Spain, France, Kingdom United Kingdom and Greece.
From Spain, the company Cia He brings his latest work, ‘Roulettes’, which revolves around Ramiro Ramirez, an old man with certain habits, who makes his daily walk.
Puppets Alakrán, also from Spain, tells the story of a clothing marketer, desperate for the meager sales, who is surprised by the appearance of a world-renowned businessman who buys everything.
Noisy Oyster, from the UK, shows in Alcobaça ‘Plain Bob’, a speechless show with mimic, music and sound effects.
‘Pépé’s hut’ appears by the hand of the Cinemarionnettes Compagnie Théâtres de Marionnettes, from France, to surprise the audience with ‘a small walking theater that wanders among the crowd with a strange character’, announced the organization of the festival.
From Greece the Bufo Puppet Theater arrives with ‘Rembetiko’, depicting a musical style emerged in the 1920s, through traditional musicians and Turkish immigrants.
Among the Portuguese are Marimbondo Company (Lousã), Jangada Theater (Lousada), Folia Theater with Marionetas (Lisbon), Once Upon a Time (Évora) and Marionetas da Feira (Santa Maria da Feira), which join the company of Alcobaça who, throughout the festival, has sought “to discover emerging artists and projects in the national panorama”.
“There are practically all the professional structures in this country and on the stage, practically all the professional structures of this country and many foreigners,” SA Marionetas says in a press release of the festival, which starts on October 4 (Thursday), with shows for schools, and that lasts until Sunday, with the puppets to take to the stage in squares, markets and theater halls of the city.
After 20 editions, the Alcobaça company considers that the work it has undertaken to do, “throughout all these years, has been done”, noting that “there are several events of the same format dedicated to the art of the puppet, by the country, “in relation to which he claims” some guilt of this reality “.
The Company promises after the 21st edition some news (not yet disclosed) in the format of the festival organized since 1998, as the culmination of a series of shows performed by SA Marionetas throughout this year to commemorate the first year as a professional structure.
