Pussy Riot with concerts in Lisbon and Porto

Casa da Música and Cineteatro Capitólio

The Russian artistic collective PUSSY RIOT kicks off the European tour RIOT DAYS and has a mandatory stop in Porto on the 8th, at Casa da Música, and in Lisbon on the 9th, at Cineteatro Capitólio.

The PUSSY RIOT (led by activist Maria Alyokhina) is a peculiar protest formation, feminine and feminist, of variable geometry, based in Moscow, and founded in 2011. The group – which came to include 11 women – became famous largely due to the staging of unauthorized provocative punk rock guerrilla shows in unusual public places, which were turned into music videos and posted on the internet and spread across the planet.

Among the most discussed topics, feminism, LGBT rights, and, of course, the explicit opposition assumed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who the group considers to be a dictator with dangerous links to the Russian Orthodox Church, stand out.

But PUSSUY RIOT achieved worldwide notoriety when five members of the group risked a performance in the middle of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Moscow, in 2012. The Orthodox clergy considered this “performance” sacrilegious and the show ended with the intervention of security officers. of the church. In their defense, the artists/activists clarified that their protest was aimed at the support of Orthodox Church leaders for Putin during his election campaign.
