Qatar Airways raises around 850,000 euros for the Educate A Child Program
Qatar Airways is pleased to announce that it has raised approximately 850,000 euros for the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) program, Educate A Child (EAC), between 2019 and 2020.
Since 2013, the airline has collaborated with EAC, affirming its responsibility as a global corporate citizen to help the communities it welcomes. As part of efforts to promote the initiative, an EAC video is played on board, via the airline’s Oryx One entertainment system, during all flights to encourage donations to disadvantaged and out-of-school children across the country. world.
The Chief Executive of the Qatar Airways Group, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are proud to continue this partnership with the Education Above All Foundation. Since 2013, together with our passengers, we have donated and will continue to donate to this commendable cause. With more than 59 million children worldwide of primary school age who do not have access to education, we, as a global business citizen, have a responsibility to give back to our communities.”
To contribute, passengers can donate online when they arrive at the payment page during the flight booking process. Donations up to 50 USD can be made per booking.
When on board, passengers can request envelopes from the cabin crew to donate any amount, in any currency, which funds are then matched by Qatar Airways.
The Educate A Child program was launched in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as a global program from the Education Above All Foundation. The program aims to provide quality primary education to millions of school-age children who otherwise would not have access to education.
Funds collected through the partnership go to EAC projects in countries where children without access to school are faced with barriers to education, including extreme poverty, gender discrimination, and conflict-affected environments.
To date, more than 9.9 million children have been enrolled in primary education programs worldwide, thanks to EAC and its partners.
In October 2020, Qatar Airways offered 21,000 free tickets to teachers in order to show their appreciation for their vital work in educating young people around the world during the challenges brought about by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
