Four new wines from the Valle de Passos brand
mark the entry of the Terras & Terroir Group into the Trás-os-Montes region
Valle de Passos Tinto, Valle de Passos Branco, Valle de Passos Rosé, and Valle de Passos Tinta Amarela are the first four wines from the brand, signed by the Terras & Terroir Group.
The wines have a marked character of what has been done in Trás-os-Montes, perhaps the region that has recorded the highest increase in the quality of its wines. The winemaking team, led by the experienced winemaker Francisco Gonçalves, has managed to express the region’s characteristic differentiation in the wines now presented. They stand out for the perfect balance achieved between acidity, fruit, and tannins.
Let’s start with Valle de Passos Tinta Amarela 2022. It boasts a sophisticated, exotic aroma with perceptible notes of spices and red fruits. The same grape variety, alone, is the source of Valle de Passos Rosé, which is fresher and has several aromatic layers of pomegranate, cherry, and currants that enhance the wine’s highly aromatic profile.
Valle de Passos Branco is a blend of white grape varieties. Gouveio (60%) predominates, followed by Viosinho (25%) and 15% Arinto. The aroma is lively, accompanied by delicate floral notes that bestow elegance and sophistication.
An elegant aroma, dominated by wild fruits such as blackberry and notes of red preserves, characterizes Valle de Passos Tinto, also marked by Tinta Amarela (50%), Tinta Roriz (40%), and Touriga Nacional (10%).
“The Trás-os-Montes region is the sensation in how it has been producing quality wines. It is one of the most recent origin designations, but the wine culture is millennia old,” notes the management of the Terras & Terroir Group, emphasizing that “this history is what we want to carry on, which aligns with the spirit of creating this economic group, to value and preserve the best that is made in each of the wine regions.”
The Valle de Passos brand manages to combine modernity with the millenary history of winemaking in the region. Consumers who are awakening to wine are one of the target audiences for these new wines, as they show an interest in discovering new things at affordable prices.
In the municipality of Valpaços, the group already has a distinguished hotel unit, located at Quinta Valle de Passos, previously known as Quinta Dona Adelaide. However, the hotel name remains Olive Nature Hotel & Spa, reinforcing its connection to olive cultivation and wine tourism, offering experiences that highlight both the olive oil and the wines produced on the property.
The Terras & Terroir Group, led by entrepreneurs Maria do Céu Gonçalves, Álvaro Lopes, and Paulo Pereira, thus becomes present in five different demarcated regions. Quinta da Pacheca is the player with which everything began, in the Douro, also holding three other tourism projects in this region: the new five-star Douro Hotel Wine & Spa at Quinta de São José do Barrilário; Vila Marim Country Houses in Mesão Frio; and Folgosa Douro Hotel in Armamar. The acquisition of Caminhos Cruzados marked the entry into Dão, and in Bairrada, the company in the group’s universe is Quinta do Ortigão. In Alentejo, the Terras & Terroir includes Herdade da Rocha and Ribafreixo Wines.
The presence in other wine regions is on the horizon for the entrepreneurs, who have signalled the regions of Vinho Verde and the Algarve as having significant growth potential.
