Gira Sol Azul promotes from October 2021 to May 2022, in Viseu, a cycle of artistic residencies and concerts under the stamp Que Jazz É Este?.
This cycle includes 8 activities: 3 artistic residencies that cross musicians from different generations, geographies and natures and translate into the presentation of 3 concerts; 2 concerts focused on creating contexts for the professionalization of young musicians; 3 concerts programmed in partnership with national record labels that support independent edition in the field of jazz, in order to contribute to the circulation of excellent projects created and produced in Portugal.
This initiative intends to continue throughout the year the objectives that the festival Que Jazz É Este? proposes and that pass for having a very significant impact on the community and public in general, promoting quality national and international music, with Jazz as the motto, as well as continuing to strengthen the artistic fabric of the Viseu region.
The program for the first quarter of this cycle began on October 13 at the Museu Nacional Grão Vasco with a concert resulting from the residency of the “Antidote” project, led by drummer Miguel Rodrigues, accompanied by José Soares on saxophone, André Matos on guitar and Demian Cabaud on double bass.
On November 24, Nazaré da Silva Quinteto will present at Carmo’81 the album Gingko, edited by Robalo, an album made up of the singer’s original compositions (music and texts), which depart from the universe of songs, making room for more improvisation. free and collective.
On December 23, the cycle continues at Teatro Viriato with Gira Big Band and its special guest Elisa Rodrigues, in a concert that focuses essentially on the songs from Elisa’s latest album, Gira Big Band is part of a collective of young musicians from philharmonic bands and students from professional music courses in the region of Viseu who are accompanied by Colectivo Gira Sol Azul, under the direction of João Martins.
Access to the concerts requires booking a seat on the website www.quejazzeeste.com and, in order to contribute to the sustainability and continuity of the initiative, a donation of €3 is suggested to attend each of the shows. All concerts start at 9.30 pm.
