The Marés das Festas do Barreiro stage welcomed Quim Barreiros yesterday for a night full of excitement. After Syro, Festa M80, Diego Miranda, and Profjam, it was time for the most popular music to take over the festivities.

Joaquim de Magalhães Fernandes Barreiros, better known as Quim Barreiros, is a Portuguese singer and accordionist, one of the best-known and most beloved artists of Portuguese popular music. A musical genre known as “pimba,” his lively, danceable melodies, along with clever, often mischievous lyrics full of double meanings, remain a king at popular festivals, with audiences of all ages flocking to his shows.

Yesterday in Barreiro, he was once again greeted by a packed house, who sang and danced to his most popular songs, such as “Bacalhau à Portuguesa,” “A Garagem da Vizinha,” “A Cabritinha,” and “O Gelado (Chupa Teresa),” all livening up the festivities.

Barreiros began his career playing drums and accordion at a young age, joining his father’s band, Conjunto Alegria. Beginning his professional career in 1971, he became one of Portugal’s most recognised and enduring artists, known for his ability to connect with audiences through humour and a relatable, engaging style.
