- The calendar of the second edition of the Clio Trophy Portugal is set with the novelty of the debut of the ground floors! The start of the season is scheduled for March 7.
- Michelin became the tyre supplier for the competition promoted by Renault Portugal, which in 2024 recorded zero failures due to technical problems and won a championship at only 23 years old.
- The Clio Trophy Portugal is aimed at young drivers who want to make a career in the sport, based on the series unit of the Clio model, although developed according to the FIA Rally5 regulation.
Five rallies are part of the calendar for the 2025 edition of the Clio Trophy Portugal, the first two being held on dirt and the remaining on asphalt:
- 7 and 8 March – Rally Serras de Fafe, Felgueiras, Boticas and Cabeceiras de Basto.
- 2 and 3 May – Rali Terras d’Aboboreira.
- 13 and 14 June – Rally Castelo Branco and Vila Velha de Ródão.
- 17 and 18 October – Rally Vidreiro Centro de Portugal.
- 31 and 1 November – Lisbon Rally.
In addition to the debut of the dirt floors, the second season of the Clio Trophy Portugal is marked by the entry of Michelin as a tyre supplier. The French manufacturer joins Mobilize Financial Services and MOTRIO as partners in the initiative promoted by Renault Portugal.
As for prizes, the total amount is again 40,000 €. Per race, 2.500€ will be awarded to the winner, 1.750€ to the second placed, 1.250€ (3rd), 750€ (4th), 500€ (5th), 250€ (6th), while the final prize for the winner of the competition is 3.000€ + 2.000€ in Alpine Racing material.
An excellent season in perspective, even due to the success of the debut edition, which confirmed the Clio Trophy Portugal as a unique proposal in national motorsport: a true school of talent – Danny Carreira, was crowned “champion” with only 23 years old; an unbeatable competitiveness/price ratio; and the unquestionable reliability of the Clio Rally 5, which did not register a single withdrawal due to technical problems!
Remember that the Clio Rally 5 that serves as the base of the trophy originates from the series model of the Clio. In addition to being FIA-approved, it is equipped with a Sadev sequential gearbox, self-locking differential, specific suspensions and brakes and of course, all the safety equipment required by international regulations. The most competitive and successful proposal for drivers, especially the youngest ones, who dream of the opportunity to compete, at the controls of a competitive car, reliable and affordable.
Concerning the 2025 season, Pedro Matos Chaves, sports coordinator of the Clio Trophy Portugal, highlights: “The inclusion of rallies on dirt floors is a natural evolution for the trophy, allowing riders to have wider contact with different surfaces and making them more versatile and competitive. The feedback from the drivers and teams was key to this decision, and we are confident that the 2025 season will be even more exciting.”
Hugo Barbosa, Renault Portugal’s Communication Director, underlines: “The Clio Trophy Portugal is reaffirmed as the reference competition for young drivers. With remarkable results, new partnerships and the inclusion of ground floors, we are fulfilling the mission to organize a trophy that not only trains talents but also promotes motorsport as a whole.”
The second edition of the Clio Trophy Portugal is thus ready to start in 2025, with the first race scheduled for 7 March.
