Portugal Historic Rally heads to Viseu today with passage through Arganil

The second stage of the Portugal Historic Rally will connect, today, Figueira da Foz and Viseu, with a passage through the famous specials of Arganil. The event organized by the Automobile Club of Portugal takes 68 teams on a total route of 1,900 kilometers, including historic sections of the Portugal Rally.

The fleet of the Portugal Historic Rally will travel, this Wednesday, some of the most famous roads in the Central region, on a stage that links Figueira da Foz to Viseu. After departing from Sintra towards Figueira da Foz yesterday, the 68 competitors will today cover 259.82 kilometres to the city of Viriato, passing through the iconic area of Arganil, one of the most famous locations of the Portugal Rally, starting at 1:10 PM.

The arrival in Viseu, immediately preceded by passages in Seia and Nelas, is expected at 7:30 PM, concluding a stage with 183.28 kilometres of regularity specials.

Belgians lead the way

Yesterday, the weather conditions made it difficult for the teams that left Praia de Magoito, in Sintra, which will also host the arrival of the event in the early hours of next Saturday.

After the final special of the day in Figueira da Foz (SS5), the Belgians Ruben Maes and Yves Noelanders were leading in the standings with their Porsche 914/6. Just 0.4 points behind the Belgian duo, in second place, were the record winners of the event, compatriots Yves Deflandres and Jennifer Hugo (Porsche 911), with Frenchman Christophe Baillet, navigated by Jean-Marc Piret, in third place in another Porsche 911. The German car dominated operations in the first stage, and the best Portuguese team appears in fourth place, José Carvalhosa and António Caldeira, driving another Porsche 911.

Considered one of the most important historic regularity events in Europe, the Portugal Historic Rally has teams from nine countries and a fleet of historical cars, built between 1957 and 1990.
