Sébastian Ogier, the sixth champion of the world, will be the great star of the race that lasts until Sunday. Sebastian Loeb will make his debut.
The Rally of Portugal will be the 7th event of the WRC championship. One of the most acclaimed motor racing competitions will have one more edition in our country and in 2019 the organization expects record attendance.
It is also expected complicated steps due to the intense heat that will be felt in the coming days. Ogier, Neuville, Tanak or Sebastian Loeb, who will return to the races in Portugal, will have to adapt to the temperatures in the course that will be done in the Center and North of the country.
This edition of 2019 Rally Portugal will have its departure in Coimbra and passes through three emblematic sections: Lousã, Góis, and Arganil. In the north, the riders will also pass through Vieira do Minho, Cabeceiras de Basto, Amarante, and Vila Nova de Gaia. On the last day, Montim, Fafe, and Luílhas welcome the last stages, before the consecration of the winners in Matosinhos.
“For me, the key will be, since Friday, look for the best positioning for the match the next day, otherwise, we will not have any chances. That is, we may have to give up a few seats on Friday for a better starting position on Saturday. This is going to be the key to going after the points, “said Sébastian Ogier, the current leader of the World Championship.
As for Loeb, the Hyundai driver looked expectant with the race.
“For now, the feeling is good on this return to Portugal and … it’s okay. We will see what can happen, but it is not easy to discover a new rally, especially one that the opponents have already disputed. But I’ve always liked the Rally of Portugal and now it’s in a region I did not know. I have already seen that there are some beautiful specials on the first day, in the area of Arganil. As for the rest, we will continue to discover the ‘specials’ on the second day of practice and hope to be able to make a good rally, “he said on Tuesday, quoted by the Rally Portugal website.
