Rancho de Cantadores de Aldeia Nova de São Bento postpones shows in Lisbon and Porto until 2022

Due to the current state of emergency that forced the closing of the concert halls, the Rancho de Cantadores de Aldeia Nova de São Bento concerts and guests, which sold out Casa da Música, in Porto, and the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, and would take place at the beginning of February, they were rescheduled for March and April 2022. Tickets previously purchased are automatically valid for next year’s shows.

The concerts of the Rancho de Cantadores of Aldeia Nova de São Bento, initially scheduled for March 2020, have already suffered more than one postponement, as a result of the evolution of the pandemic but also because it is a risk group if we take into account the average age of its participants. The situation is alien to the organization, which thanks the public for its understanding.

The Rancho de Cantadores of Aldeia Nova de São Bento, created 33 years ago, is heir to a long tradition long recognized in the region as “land of good cantadores”. The group, aged between 16 and 93 years, represents with distinction the Cante Alentejano – considered in 2014 Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO – and conceived a concert thought as a celebration, which will take place at the Centro Cultural de Belém , in Lisbon, on three sold-out dates, and at Casa da Música, in Porto, with an equally sold-out date.

Since its founding in 1986, the Ranch has not ceased its activity, which has honored its village, region and country through performances all over the world, from Brazil to the USA, from China (Macau) to Germany, passing through several European countries like Spain, France and Belgium. In parallel, he has performed on national stages, such as the Coliseums, Culturgest or the National Theater of São Carlos. Challenged by António Zambujo, Rancho de Cantadores recorded in 2016 a homonymous album, which reached the Golden Award, produced by Ricardo Cruz, which portrays in an exemplary way his path, principles, and values but above all the quality of his interpreters, showing the cohesion and strength that humbly and harmoniously merge into the unity of the group.

They are a continuation of an old tradition that would have arisen in agriculture, when groups of men and women humanized their work, singing together with the beautiful fashions of the Alentejo songbook. They sang not only the harshness of life but also the beauty of the surrounding nature. With the disappearance of extensive agriculture, the song adapted to this new situation, became another, singing a reality that no longer existed, changing from experiential to evocative and subsisting, above all, in the place where men could join: the tavern. It was in a tavern, around a bottle of wine, that a group of friends singing, and, well, the fashions of this land, organized themselves to create the Rancho de Cantadores of Aldeia Nova de São Bento.
