Rão Kyao presents live performance of the new album Fado Bambu

Trindade Theater on March 25th

After 4 years since the worldwide release of “Gandhi“, Rão Kyao brings us a new album, FADO BAMBU (NO SOM DA PALAVRA), next March. About a week later, he performed it live at the Teatro da Trindade, with his band and a special guest.

With a long career and more than 40 albums released, including the highly successful Fado Bailado, Rão Kyao returns to Fado – a constant in his work.

Fado Bambu – which has the subtitle “No Som da Palavra”, consists of the presentation of themes linked to classical fado together with original and unpublished compositions, associated with this musical language of ours, so dear and motivating for Rão Kyao, which expresses himself in this way, always uniquely and spontaneously in the various “Voices” of his flutes.

From the beginning of his career as a musician, Rão Kyao emphasized the intimate connection between the bamboo flute and the human voice. This connection goes so far that he claims to feel the sound of his flute as a voice.

The new themes will be presented live for the first time on March 25th at Teatro da Trindade. Rão Kyao will perform with a formation that includes Portuguese Guitar (José Manuel Neto), Fado Viola (André Ramos) and Accordion (Carlos Lopes), in addition to Bamboo Flutes that play the role of the “Voice“, in a very acoustic atmosphere pointing to a sound reminiscent of a typical house.

“We want to highlight the “vocal” quality of the various flutes, in an informal and spontaneous environment, with great emphasis on improvisation, which is so characteristic and necessary in this music and, at the same time, so beloved and part of the “DNA” of the musicians involved,” explains Rão.

As a special guest, this debut show will feature the participation of poet and reciter José Fanha, who will recite part of the poetry associated with each of the fados, immediately before their interpretation, giving substance to the album’s subtitle “No Som da Palavra” and thus helping to subjectively identify the emotional environment of the themes to be interpreted.

Tickets for the show are now available at www.ticketline.pt and the usual locations.

Rão Kyao, as one of the most versatile instrumentalists and composers of Portuguese music, was decorated with the degree of Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, granted by the Presidency of the Republic, a decoration by the Société Académique des Arts, Sciences et Lettres de Paris. Awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold Degree) from the city of Lisbon, and the “Carlos Paredes” and “Pedro Osório” awards from the Portuguese Society of Authors, just to name a few.
Performing on several tours, with many meetings and collaborations across all continents, which make him the most universal of national musicians, he is considered the true “ambassador” of Portuguese music.
