Raquel Queirós wins 1st Women’s Volta a Portugal
Raquel Queirós, 21 years old and born in Vila do Conde, won the 1st Women’s Tour of Portugal at the service of Velo Performance-JS Campinense, confirming the favoritism with which she started the competition.
The cyclist won one of the four stages (final in Loures) and the time trial in Vila Franca de Xira, was 3rd on the first day in Setúbal and 7th on arrival in Lisbon.
The last stage between Caldas da Rainha and Lisbon, with 94.7 km, was initially attacked by the British LDN-Brother UK, who tried to reach the top positions, with the Portuguese responding, canceling all attempts. A group of 32 cyclists decided to win the sprint with Lucy Lee (LDN) being the fastest, followed by the Spanish Lucia Garcia and Laura Rodriguez (SCA).
Raquel Queirós was the overall winner, followed by Sofia Gomes (VES) who belongs to the junior level, with Íris Gomez (SCA) completing the podium. Danielle Shrosbree (LDN) was the winner in points and mountain, Sofia Gomes (VES) first in her youth and LDN-Brother UK the team winner, having finished 61 of the 84 cyclists who lined up at the start.
