Free HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Screenings

In November in Sintra

The Municipality of Sintra continues to promote, during the month of November, screening for HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, other Sexually Transmitted Infections and Tuberculosis, an initiative integrated in the FAST TRACK CITIES Program to which the municipality joined in 2018.

In addition to screenings for HIV/AIDS and STIs in several places in Sintra, you can screen for Tuberculosis and Respiratory Pathologies in a Mobile Unit belonging to ARSLVT, continuing the screening cycles of past months.

Equipped with Direct Digital Conventional Radiology equipment, this Mobile Tracking Unit is the most sophisticated in the country, having the best “state-of-the-art” technology in Europe. It allows for greater accuracy and faster diagnosis, which allows for anticipating the start of therapy and monitoring, as well as reducing the risk of the disease and its possible transmission. The x-ray is generated immediately after the exam is performed and sent in digital support to the radiologist and physicians at the Pneumological Diagnostics Center. Subsequently, it is sent to the clinician accompanying the user, whether a family doctor or doctor in another specialty.

The screening of certain population groups is crucial for the control and monitoring of respiratory pathology, especially tuberculosis.
Simultaneously in another Mobile Unit, screenings will be carried out for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, an activity under the technical, pedagogical and scientific responsibility of AJPAS – Association for Community Intervention, Social Development and Health.

The municipality of Sintra integrates the Fast Track Cities – Cities on the fast track to end the HIV epidemic, having joined the Paris Declaration in 2018 and for that reason is considered a region on the “fast track” to end HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis, Other STIs and Tuberculosis.
