On Monday, April 28, the audition for the musical “Grease” was held at the Capitólio, with more than three hundred applications. Young actors full of hope, nervousness and talent auditioned for the musical that is part of our lives and imagination.
The musical “Grease” by Yellow Star Company, starring Carla Matadinho and Paulo Sousa Costa, held an audition for the musical show at the Capitólio — Parque Mayer. 300 applicants showed their talent. Part of the tests were to present a text, dance, and sing.
Although many, with more or less talent, with their nerves on edge, were evaluated by a very experienced panel of judges who had the difficulty of choosing the next actors for the next season of “Grease” which is scheduled for October 3 to November 7 – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
“Grease” is a beloved American musical that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide through its stage productions and its iconic 1978 film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
Set in the late 1950s at Rydell High School, the story follows the blossoming romance between greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson.
The Story
During summer vacation, Danny and Sandy have a passionate fling. As the school year begins, Sandy unexpectedly finds herself at Danny’s school, Rydell High. However, Danny’s tough-as-nails “greaser” persona clashes with Sandy’s good-girl image, creating challenges for their rekindled romance. The musical explores themes of teenage love, identity, peer pressure and the challenges of fitting in at high school.
“Grease” is famous for its catchy and energetic rock and roll soundtrack, featuring several classic hits. Some of the most popular songs include: “Summer Nights”, “Greased Lightnin'”, “Hopelessly Devoted to You”, “You’re the One That I Want”, “We Go Together”, “Beauty School Dropout”, “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” and “There Are Worse Things I Could Do”.
The 1978 film adaptation, directed by Randal Kleiser, was a huge commercial and critical success, becoming the highest-grossing musical film of its time. This further popularised the musical and its soundtrack, making stars of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The film incorporated some changes from the original musical, but retained its core story and iconic songs.
The original musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey premiered in Chicago in 1971, had a long and successful run and has been revived numerous times. The stage version sometimes includes songs that aren’t in the film, and vice versa.
