Rema reaches Triple Platinum in Portugal with the hit “Calm Down”
Musician recently released two new singles, “Holiday” and “Reason You”
The success surrounding Rema’s “Calm Down” shows no signs of slowing down. After having reached 1st place in the national airplay top, the single has just won the Triple Platinum award!
This a great omen for the Nigerian artist’s concert in Portugal, scheduled for June 9th at Primavera Sound Porto.
Recently, Rema released “Holiday” and “Reason You”, two new singles that are also the first themes in the musician’s own name since he released his debut album, “Rave&Roses”, last year. Both singles feature a new and evolved Rema sound; “Holiday” is distinguished by its uptempo rhythm, reflecting the singer on the struggles and sacrifices he has made in life – from Benin City to his debut EP in 2019 – highlighting his self-confidence despite doubts, criticism, and rejection. On the other hand, Rema transports the listener through her charming and meditative voice in “Reason You”, a song dedicated to a particular person who caught her attention.
In addition to the huge success achieved in Portugal, “Calm Down” was also a true worldwide success: it reached 6th place in the official UK charts and 1st in the Billboard Global top (Excl. USA), and became the video Best performing Afrobeats on YouTube of all time. “Calm Down” received unwavering support in India and the UAE, was MENA’s first number 1 single on the charts, and now Rema is the 65th most streamed artist on Spotify with over 37 million monthly listeners, the highest number an artist from Africa has ever achieved.
Marking a year since the release of their debut album, Rema continues to shine brighter than ever, proving the immense impact Afrobeats has had on the world. Rema grew up before everyone’s eyes and knew the potential she had inside her from day one. Now 22 years old, 2023 is the coming-of-age year for the afrorave pioneer who will continue to grow, create and leave his divine mark on music.
