Retimbrar releases “a maior prenda”
Song marks partnership with ZERO and integrates reforestation campaign
Retimbrar presents “a maior prenda” (“the greatest gift”), a new single that marks the return of the Porto Alegre-based collective to releases and the beginning of a new creative cycle.
The song, anchored in the imagery of winter and inspired by the Christmas season, is associated with a reforestation project in partnership with the environmental association ZERO. A proposal that crosses music, ecological awareness, and social intervention, and which leads us to the last concerts of the year, between Lisbon and Porto.

“a maior prenda,” is a luminous musical manifesto that declares, in direct verse, the desire to end hunger and loneliness, appealing to values of reconnection with nature – without losing the thread of dance. The music video, filmed in the Christmas Village of Óbidos and directed by Pedro Santasmarinas, is a testament to complicity. The almost documentary-style video captures moments of encounter and combines gestures, oranges, and hugs with the rhythmic texture of the theme.
The release precedes the band’s final shows of the year. In Lisbon, the band will perform on December 20th and 21st at Casa Capitão; in Porto, the concert is scheduled for December 28th at M.Ou.Co. For the concerts, they promise a warm, celebratory, and intimate approach alluding to the festive season.
Through a partnership with ZERO, the audience will also be invited to purchase a postcard associated with the single, with part of the proceeds going towards a project to reforest an area of the Leiria National Forest.
“a maior prenda”, (The Greatest Gift) is now available on all digital platforms.

About Retimbrar:
Retimbrar are now closing out 2025 after a period of national and international touring that culminated in new creations. In a never-ending search, the collective continues to refine words, timbres, and arrangements for a future album, following “Levantar do Chão” (Get Up from the Ground). Between revisiting the repertoires of José Afonso and Carlos Paredes, in an exploration of hidden gems of Portuguese music, the group continues to affirm TugaBeat as a living movement, rooted in popular traditions and oral poetry, but open to dialogue with other geographies.
Composed of eight musicians, Retimbrar seeks to create from the Portuguese rhythmic matrix, crossing folklore, urban pulse and contemporary narrative. With two album releases – “Voa Pé” (2016) and “Levantar do Chão” (2022) – they have established themselves as one of the most unique groups in the landscape of traditional Portuguese music, having performed at festivals such as Womex, FMM Sines, Maré de Agosto, Ulicnih Street Arts Festival (Serbia), Expo Dubai, Jazz Sous Les Pommiers (France), MUMI (Spain) and Folk Alliance International (Canada), among others. They received distinctions such as the aRi[t]mar award for Best Portuguese Song with “Maçãzinha” and saw “Maneio” re-released by the world music label Putumayo.
On stage, the group consists of António Serginho, Afonso Passos, André Nunes, Andres ‘Pancho’ Tarabbia, Beatriz Rola, Jorge Loura, Miguel Ramos and Sara Yasmine, in an ensemble that prioritises percussion, orality and collective vertigo.
