Revelados os nomes dos artistas que vão actuar no Play
D.A.M.A, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Pedro Mafama and Ricardo Ribeiro are some of the nominated artists who will also perform. The ceremony on May 16th was marked by Alentejo singing for the first time and by the nominated JÜRA ensuring exclusive technological performance.
Interviews with guests from the red carpet begin to be broadcast around 7 pm on PLAY’s Instagram.
The 14 artists are now known, five of whom have been nominated, who will star in the seven musical performances, considered key moments of the PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards winners’ ceremony, which will take place on May 16, at the Coliseu dos Recreios, being broadcast live from 9 pm on RTP1, RTP África, RTP Internacional, RTP Play and Antena1.
For this 6th edition, and as usual, the fusions of different styles such as pop, rock, R&B, fado, jazz and hip hop once again gain prominence, and, for the first time in PLAY’s history, Alentejo singing — classified in 2014 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO — will also take the stage.
To liven up the night, this year’s performances are by: Murta & Diana Lima; Diogo Piçarra & Pedro Abrunhosa; SYRO & Bishop; Camané & Ricardo Ribeiro (nominated Best Fado Album) with João Paulo Esteves da Silva (nominated Best Jazz Album) & Mário Laginha; Pedro Mafama (nominated for Vodafone Song of the Year, Best Male Artist and Best Music Video) & Grupo Coral Paz and União de Alcáçovas and La Família Gitana and also D.A.M.A (nominated for Best Group) & Buba Espinho.
In addition to these six performances, the Vodafone moment also promises to surprise, as happens in all editions, and this time it will have a technological component associated with 5G. With the aim of supporting emerging talents, JÜRA (named New Artist) was the voice chosen for this exclusive show. The artistic direction of the seven performances is signed by Cifrão.
Remember that during this ceremony, among the 50 nominees, the winners of the 14 categories will be revealed: Vodafone Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Group, Best Album, Best Fado Album, New Artist, Prize Light and Popular Music (1st time in the competition), Lusofonia Award, Best Video Clip, Best Jazz Album, Best Classical/Erudite Music Album, Career Award and Critics Award.
It should be noted that voting for Vodafone Song of the Year — the only category whose winner is elected by the public — remains active (until almost the end of the gala), and can be done via the links in specific posts and bios on PLAY’s social networks (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X) and also on the My Vodafone App (only for operator customers), on the PLAY link — Vodafone Song of the Year.
The ceremony will be presented as usual by Filomena Cautela, and this year she will be paired with Inês Lopes Gonçalves, with whom she has already shared the stage in the first two editions. On the red carpet, digital reporters Alexandre Guimarães and Catarina Moreira provide interviews with artists and guests, which are broadcast on PLAY’s Instagram, starting at 7 pm.
The PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards are promoted by Audiogest, which manages and represents the rights of multinational, national and independent publishers, and also by GDA, the entity that manages the rights of artists, performers and performers. The entire process of applications, nominations and selection of winners is always duly audited by PwC.
Created in 2019 to celebrate and promote the talent and careers of Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking artists, the PLAY Awards are currently the biggest celebration of national music, also contributing to the cultural and economic development of the country.
