Corticeira Amorim’s biologically derived coating on cork stoppers wins international innovation award

Bee W® by Amorim Cork stands out for the innovation and sustainability it brings to the coating of natural cork stoppers. The award will be received at the prestigious ENOMAQ fair in Zaragoza, Spain.

Amorim Cork’s Bee W® bio-based coating will be awarded the “Technological Innovation” prize at the “Concurso de Mejoras e Innovaciones Tecnológicas” (Contest for Technological Improvements and Innovations) on February 13th at ENOMAQ in Zaragoza, Spain.

Bee W® allows us to combine, for the first time, two extraordinary natural products: beeswax and cork in a pioneering solution that reinforces the sustainability and innovation of natural cork stoppers.

Developed with biopolymers, this coating improves the technical properties of corks, ensuring low and consistent oxygen ingress rates, thus contributing to improving the consistency of wine flavours and aromas, bottle by bottle, especially relevant in the case of wines for storage.

Bee W® is an excellent solution for winemakers looking to improve the consistency and quality of their bottled wines. The product’s innovative coating and rigorous quality control processes ensure that each cork performs optimally, preserving the quality of the wine and ensuring greater sensory homogeneity.

For António Rios de Amorim, President and CEO of Corticeira Amorim, “this recognition is a motivation for us to continue improving and evolving, believing that innovation is the path to a more sustainable future. Bee W®, in particular, combines the best of nature with the most advanced technology, reflecting the continuous action of Corticeira Amorim and its teams in the search for new solutions while preserving the centuries-old connection between cork and wine.”

ENOMAQ-OLEOMAQ-E-BEER and TECNOVID-OLEOTEC is an internationally renowned event, is a fundamental platform for promoting innovation and development in the wine, olive oil and beer sectors.
