The band from the film “Variações“, a tribute to António Variações by director João Maia, gave a concert at the FIGURAS À RAMPA festival, at Teatro das Figuras in Faro. The first part was in charge of the Galopim project.
The FIGURAS À RAMPA festival is a partnership between Metrónomo, Teatro das Figuras and the Municipality of Faro as a response to the return of shows to the Algarve city, and includes names such as Tiago Bettencourt, The Legendary Tigerman, Captain Faust, NEEV and emerging local artists from 19th to 27th August.
The first day of the festival, August 19th, started with the group Galopim, which brings together João Tiago Neto and Rui Daniel. This is a Faro project and one of the most applauded by the music industry that attended the concert given by the duo within the scope of the first edition of South Music. In this presentation, we could listen to themes such as “Porta de saída”, “Névoa”, “Vulcão” and “Dança Final”.

Then the band from the film “Variações” came on stage, a tribute to António Variações, by the director João Maia, who joins Sérgio Praia, the actor who plays the role of António Variações in the film, with the musicians Duarte Cabaça, David Silva, Mariana Rosa and Armando Teixeira, music producer responsible for the film’s soundtrack.
The band not only marks the debut of Sérgio Praia as a singer but also the return of musician, composer, and producer Armando Teixeira, who, through the famous António Variações cassettes, gave substance to the songs he had recorded in the garage, with amateur musicians, in the late 70s.
The concert celebrated with all the devotion and enthusiasm the songs of the extraordinary Portuguese singer, which included unforgettable themes such as “Anjo da guarda”, “‘Toma o comprimido”, “Teia”, “Perdi a memória”, “Canção do engate”, “Maria Albertina”, “Voz Amalia de Nós” and the theme “Quero dar nas vistas“. The exit was made to the sound of a recording of “Sempre Ausente” by António Variações himself.

The festival continues until August 27th with Tiago Bettencourt and the “one-man-show” Nanook, today, August 20th at 9:30 pm, with the doors opening at 9:00 pm.
On August 21, FIGURAS À RAMPA will receive NEEV and Infante. Next week, The Legendary Tigerman and the band The Mirandas, on the 26th of August, and the band Capitão Fausto and Catalina on the 27th of August will take to the stage.
Tickets have a single price of €10, with a percentage of the revenue being given to the Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Músicos de Faro. All shows are being recorded and broadcast on Teatro das Figuras‘ social networks, so that as many people as possible can have access to these special FIGURAS À RAMPA concerts.
FIGURAS À RAMPA aims to respond to the Guaranty Culture Program in partnership with Teatro das Figuras and the Municipality of Faro, enriching the theater’s programming but also the city’s cultural offer, in a way to resume and return to shows. There is a strong investment in consolidated talent and in its combination with local artists chosen to integrate the program, selected from the projects participating in South Music.
These shows also involve teams, structures, suppliers, companies providing services in the audiovisual field, which thus have the opportunity to resume operations, promoting a gradual return to work in the sector. This project is translated into a collaborative effort with municipal entities, local and national press and contemplates direct support to an essential fabric, also in crisis: restaurants and hotels.
