The Super Bock Super Rock returns to Meco, Sesimbra, on the 16th, 17th and 18th of July this year. With an eclectic poster and marked by diversity, there is another name that seems to perfectly match the spirit of the Festival: the young musician Rex Orange County will also pass by Meco, on July 16, at the Super Bock Stage.
REX ORANGE COUNTY
Fifty years after the end of the Beatles, if anyone still doubts the effectiveness and power of the three-minute pop song, you have to listen to Rex Orange County to make sure the format is unbeatable, as long as there is effort, talent and things to do. tell. And that is exactly what Rex Orange County does not lack. Young Alex O’Connor was born in 1998 in the small village of Grayshott, on the border between Hampshire and Surrey, in England. It was there that his taste for music was born, which he developed in the school choir, long before he started signing as Rex Orange County.
The choir boy quickly began to hear people who went beyond that: names like Weezer, Green Day, Stevie Wonder or Queen shaped his artistic sensibility and even today they appear as echoes in his songs. As a teenager, he joined BRIT School, an art school in London. From then on, the passion for music began to occupy more and more space in the life of this young British man: he learned to play the drums, guitar, piano and to use some software, skills that would allow him to produce his first songs. And they didn’t take long to arrive. In 2016 he released “Bcos U Will Never B Free” on SoundCloud.
That first record put him on the map of British alternative music and earned him the attention of names with Two Inch Punch and Tyler, The Creator – the following year he was already participating in “Flower Boy”, the album released in 2017 by Tyler . Rex’s second album, “Apricot Princess”, made it to the top of independent music on Billboard and set the stage for “Pony”, his last album, released in 2019. With jazz influences and also from some performers and composers of the years 70, the young musician does not cease to surprise.
This summer he goes through Portugal and brings with him these new songs, like the contagious “10/10”, or previous hits like “Uno”, “Best Friends” or “Sunflower” – irresistible pop pieces and yet another series of good reasons to be present in front of the Super Bock Stage, on July 16, at the Super Bock Super Rock.
