An event dedicated to Italian gastronomy, art, and music features the chef of the well-known Ristorante Italiano de Matosinhos, who will also highlight his fresh four-cheese pasta, in addition to other specialties, for six days.
The Italian Festival returns to Vila Nova de Gaia, from August 29th to September 3rd. Thinking of the thousands of people who make the riverside area swarm with dynamism, large thanks to the tourist flow that heads to the Port Wine cellars and the Historic Center of the city “Invicta”, World Heritage. But also to reduce distances and miss the many Transalpines residing in the north of Portugal. The event will set up a square for six days next to the Interactive Tourism Store, bringing with it the aromas and flavors of Italian gastronomic specialties, namely those made by chef Sergio Crivelli, from the well-known Ristorante Italiano de Matosinhos.
To make visitors’ mouths water, the master chef from Spoleto (Italy), who has been living in Portugal for decades, has already come up with what will be one of the highlights of the menu he designed for the six days of the program, to do justice to his culinary passion for mushrooms and other fungi: fresh black truffle risotto, just arrived from his homeland and masterfully prepared by Sergio Crivelli.
The choice will compete, among other delicacies, with the fresh paste of four cheeses (a rigatoni), which, like the risotto, will be prepared with two forms of Grana Padano cheese, arrived on purpose from Italy for this purpose.
The Italian Festival has been part of the cultural agenda of Gaia for six years and has traveled to various Portuguese regions, under the dynamism of the Associazione Sapori Italiani. “I’ve been joining the initiative – designed to please all age groups – with great pleasure, because it allows you to get a taste of Italy, in various areas, not only gastronomic, as it offers passers-by live concerts, DJ Sets, open-air cinema sessions, dance and free workshops, such as fresh pasta and pizza, for both children and adults, in addition to various showcookings”, stresses Sergio Crivelli.
All this in a dream setting, with the Douro at our feet and a sample of proposals from one of the most genuine Italian restaurants in the north. But there is much more to discover at Cais de Gaia…
