Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rita Braga presents “Fado Tango”, the lead single from her fifth album, Fado Tropical, scheduled for release in March 2026.
It will be her first album sung entirely in Portuguese, in which she explores the origins of fado, taking it to new sonic territories—a bold work, full of surprises and special collaborations.

In an almost artistic reinvention, yet preserving her minimalist and unique style, Rita Braga delves into the universe of fado for the first time, through research into historical documents and recordings from the beginning of the last century, bringing it to a new soundscape. Inspired by a 1930 recording by Ercília Costa, “Fado Tango” revives a theme from the past and dresses it in elegant and cinematic arrangements, where Rita’s voice and ukulele intertwine with Ryoko Imai’s marimba, Bruna Moura’s cello, and João Cabrita’s saxophone. The mixing was done by Suse Ribeiro and the mastering by Tó Pinheiro da Silva.
The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Joana Linda, in which Rita explores her performative dimension and pays homage to the forgotten voices of pioneering women in the genre—from 19th-century prostitute singers to revue actresses of the first decades of the 20th century.
It is worth noting that Rita Braga has maintained an intense international schedule in recent years, with recent performances in countries such as Germany, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Ireland, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the Balkans. Rita Braga has been a guest artist at ukulele festivals, an instrument that has led her to headline performances in countries such as Finland and Australia. She has had numerous live and recorded collaborations with names including Ana da Silva (The Raincoats) and Ian Svenonius (The Make-Up).

In November, Rita Braga will be in artistic residence at Casa Varela, in Pombal, along with Rui Reininho and Leonardo Pinto, to create a unique show that will combine music, performance, and audiovisual elements. The result will be presented live at the Pombal Municipal Auditorium on November 28th. In December, Rita Braga will tour France, with shows in Bordeaux, Limoges, Angoulême, and Pau, where she will also present some songs from her new album.
Recognised by critics as a unique, versatile, and charismatic artist, she stands out for her originality, fusion of musical eras, and performative approach.
