Rita Vian, accompanied by two musicians, will be in concert at the Joaquim Benite Municipal Theater on February 8, Saturday, at 9 pm.
RITA VIAN emerged in the firmament of Portuguese music amid the pandemic: the songs “Sereia” and “Purga“, which first caught the attention of the public and the media, were from 2020, and her first EP – CAOS’A, with five songs -, which will earn him a nomination for the 2022 Play Award (New Artist category) and an honourable mention at the José Afonso Award, in addition to invitations to perform at several of the major festivals taking place across the country.
Born in Lisbon in 1991, Rita Vian was ‘born’ among fado and grew up among hip-hop and rap. When she assumed the role of artist-singer-songwriter, it was this dual heritage that she sought to merge to define her identity as a performer. According to Mário Rui Vieira (Expresso), Rita “set out in search of a balance between tradition and modernity and realized that it is in the non-linear journey between past, present and future that the gain lies”. Thus we have Rita, a lady of a distinctive, clear and serene voice, navigating a background of electronics and R&B. Her collaboration with Branko (as producer), from Buraka Som Sistema, has contributed greatly. This intersection results in songs in which words and poetry play a primary role, but in which everything moves to a modern “urban sound” – so much so that they already point to this artist as “a new path for Portuguese song” (Observador). ). His first full-length album confirmed this path – Sensoreal -, released in October 2023, and in which a mature synthesis of electronics, fado and urban poetry is evident.
