Rock arrives in the new City of Rock on the first day of the festival and the line up continues to bring more and more reasons that confirm that there is Rock at Rock in Rio Lisboa!
Rival Sons is the most recent confirmation for the festival’s new stage and will perform on June 15th in the special edition to celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary in Portugal. The Rock in Rio Lisboa concert is part of the European tour, which will take place between June and July 2024, by the Californian band already known for the extensive tours to which they have accustomed their fans. To perform at Parque Tejo Lisboa, Rival Sons bring the two albums released last year Darkfighter and Lightbringer, but also certainly the hits with which they have won over legions of fans all over the world.
Vocalist Jay Buchanan took his first steps as a solo artist and Rival Sons were the first rock band he worked with. The enthusiasm with which the debut album, Before the Fire, by the newly formed band was received in 2009, led Jay Buchanan to dedicate himself to Rival Sons full-time. After surprising critical and public acclaim, Rival Sons were invited to act as a support band for AC/DC and Alice Cooper, and two years later, in 2011, they were recording their second album Pressure & Time, which was considered Rival Sons’ most notable work to date.
The album reached number one on Amazon’s Hard Rock Best Sellers chart and number 19 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Storm Thorgerson, who had created album covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Genesis, did the cover art pro bono due to his admiration for the band. In 2012, Pressure & Time was named second album of the year and Rival Sons was nominated for New Artist of the Year by Classic Rock Magazine.
In 2016, after the release of Hollow Bones, Rival Sons went on the road with two other unmissable names in the history of Rock, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Three years later, the band released the album Feral Roots, whose lead single “Do Your Worst” reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2020, in the categories of “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Performance” for the song “Too Bad”. In 2024, back on the road with two new albums to present, Rival Sons returned to Portugal to perform at Rock in Rio Lisboa!
For Roberta Medina, Executive Vice-President of Rock in Rio: “There is no doubt that we continue to have Rock at Rock in Rio Lisboa. June 15th will be the day that Rock invades Parque Tejo Lisboa on all stages, with national and international artists, for all generations!”
The 10th edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa is scheduled for the 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd of June 2024, in Parque Tejo-Lisboa, where the new City of Rock will be built and will host the historic edition that celebrates the 20 years of the festival in Portugal. This will, without a doubt, be a special edition that will offer a lot of music, a lot of entertainment and many other new features that are yet to come.
