Rocío Márquez, one of the most relevant voices of contemporary flamenco, will perform next week, June 4th, at Theatro Circo, in Braga. Tickets are now on sale.
After dazzling several Portuguese stages between 2020 and 2021 – Lisbon (CCB), Porto (Casa da Música), Funchal (Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias) and Lagos (Centro Cultural de Lagos) – Rocío Márquez is scheduled to return to Portugal for the next June 4th. The Spanish singer will present the multi-awarded album ‘Visto En El Jueves’ (2019) at Theatro Circo, in Braga.
Owner of a rare voice and virtuosity, Márquez belongs to the family of flamenco renovators. Her discography makes evident her love for the tradition of this genre, but also the need to expand its limits, exploring and experimenting with melodies, instrumentation, arrangements, and lyrics.
‘Visto En El Jueves‘ (2019), her latest work, proposes an exercise in memory, revisiting old songs, different palos, and Spanish popular music that the ‘cantaora‘ collected in the bustling street markets of Seville. In 2020, the album won the prestigious Les Victoires du Jazz in the Best World Music Album category.
The concert at Theatro Circo is part of the program of Musa, a cycle dedicated to women’s music. In addition to Rocío Márquez, artists such as The Weather Station, Sílvia Pérez Cruz or Maria José Llergo will perform in Braga.
