Rodrigo Amarante edits today the new single, “I Can’t Wait’, from his long-awaited album Drama, scheduled for edition on July 16th by the publisher Polyvinyl, who will also reissue the acclaimed debut album Cavalo (2014), an extraordinary collection of intimate songs, in which “each instrument breathes and each sound is mixed, but each moment is different” (NPR Music). Portugal receives, in 2022, the presentation concerts of the new album, on April 18th, at Casa da Música, in Porto, and in Lisbon, on April 19th, at Capitólio. Tickets are on sale at the usual places.
After the first single “Maré”, Rodrigo Amarante reveals “I Can’t Wait”, a song that begins with the melodious sound of a harpsichord and an eared guitar, then giving way to synthesizers, while Amarante rambles on hope, freedom, and urgency. The video, whose script was written by the cinematic is and portrays a morning when Rodrigo Amarante wakes up, gets dressed, and goes out to send a letter.
Those less well versed in Rodrigo Amarante’s work will remember “Tuyo”, the song from the series Narcos on Netflix. Or from the Little Joy album. Perhaps they will be surprised by your credits in authoring songs by Gal Costa, Norah Jones and Gilberto Gil. It is possible that they saw him playing live with the Brazilian super samba group grupoOrquestra Imperial. But it is especially likely that they remember him in the mythical Rio indie band bandaLos Hermanos. For those who think they know everything about Rodrigo Amarante, “Drama” will change their turns.
