Rodrigo Leão takes O Rapaz da Montanha to the Coliseus
Rodrigo Leão returns to the big stages with his new album O Rapaz da Montanha (The Boy from the Mountain), recently released by Galileo Music on April 25.
Considered the most Portuguese work of his career, the album offers an intimate and collective portrait of the country, where emotion, words and memory intersect. With arrangements marked by expressive choirs, a strong percussive presence and lyrics that address themes such as oppression, identity and hope, Rodrigo Leão once again signs a work of great artistic maturity.
Rodrigo Leão’s career is inseparable from the recent history of Portuguese music. After joining Sétima Legião and Madredeus, he began a solo journey in 1993 that would include collaborations with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto and Beth Gibbons. Thirty-two years after starting this journey, he now presents an album inspired by a phrase by the writer Ana Carolina Costa — “If God forgives those who deceive, who forgives God?” — which embodies the theme Cadeira Preta.
O Rapaz da Montanha features long-time musicians such as Pedro Oliveira and Gabriel Gomes, as well as special guests, including José Peixoto, Carlos Poeiras and Francisco Palma. The composer’s family also has a significant presence in this work, with contributions from Ana Carolina Costa and her children, reinforcing the intimate and collective character of the album.
Produced by Rodrigo Leão, João Eleutério and Pedro Oliveira, this is an album made of deep emotions, living memory and persistent hope. The concerts at the Coliseus of Lisbon and Porto promise to be special moments of sharing and celebration of this new stage in the composer’s career.
In Lisbon, at the Coliseu dos Recreios on December 19th, and on February 1, 2026, at the Coliseu do Porto, O Rapaz da Montanha live.
An intimate and collective return to the roots, where Rodrigo Leão’s music becomes common territory — between memory and the future, between silence and celebration.
