“Roots”, with Thiago Soares, has a new presentation date in Lisbon

“Roots”, starring the dancers Thiago Soares and Danilo D’Alma, has a new presentation date in Lisbon. Postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the show will take place on May 1, at the Tivoli BBVA Theater. Tickets are already on sale through the ticketline or at the theater ticket office.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter exhausting the room at the Tivoli BBVA Theater with the show “Duelo” and enchanting the Portuguese in the program “Dança com as Estrelas”, Thiago Soares, great star of international ballet and currently the main guest at the Royal Ballet in London, returns to Lisbon with “Roots”, in a single presentation.

The show is a partnership with Danilo D’Alma, a reference in Brazilian street dance, and rescues the early life of the acclaimed dancer, mixing contemporary dance, breakdance, hip-hop and, of course, classical ballet. The direction is by Renato Cruz and Ugo Alexandre.

Roots” is promoted by Jungle producers, Como No! and LadoBe Creative.

Thiago Soares

The dancer started attending the Circus School in Rio de Janeiro, where he was born, at the age of 9. There he found the first experiences of his art in acrobatics and was encouraged to seek a dance school to perfect his movements in breakdance and hip-hop.

The beginning of his career in classical dance was at the age of 15, when he began his studies at the Centro de Dança Rio. As he stood out for his skills and for having an ideal biotype for dance, he became part of the ballet of the Municipal Theater of the Rio de Janeiro, winning the Silver Medal at the Paris International Dance Competition.

In 2001, he participated in the International Bolshoi Ballet Competition, in Russia, and won the gold medal, disputed among more than 270 candidates. The victory was a milestone in the history of national dance, as it was the first-ever awarded to a Brazilian. After that, he was invited to intern at the Kirov Ballet, becoming the second foreigner to join the company in 100 years of history.

The following year, he was invited to join the ballet of the Royal Ballet in London. In the position of main dancer of the company, between 2006 and 2019, Thiago had in his repertoire the title role in productions such as “Onegin”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “La Bayadère”, “O Lago dos Cisnes”, “O Quebra-Nozes, Coppélia”, “Volunteers”, “Gong”, ” Romeo and Juliet”, “Anastasia”, “Manon”, “Winter Dreams” and “Mayerling and Las Hermanas”.

Danilo D’Alma

With over 20 years of artistic experience, Danilo D’Alma started his career with Flávia Tapas and then joined the Grupo de Rua, by Bruno Beltrão, with whom he traveled to Europe and Asia, winning important awards such as “The Bessies New York” and “Syndicat professionnel de la Critique de Théâtre”. Specialist in urban and contemporary dances, Danilo makes a counterpoint between versatility and a more investigative dance, with depth and sensitivity.

Your experience is multiple. He worked with artists such as UM44k, Michel Melamed, Pedro Cassiano, Mel Fronckowiak, Valeska, Fernanda Abreu, and Pablo Martins 1 Kilo, doing body preparation, movement direction and artistic consulting for artists.

He also participated in major events such as the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Rock in Rio, in addition to being on the team, as a dancer and choreographer, on TV programs such as “Caldeirão do Huck”, “Malhação”, “TV Xuxa”, “Lady Night”, “The Voice Brasil” and “O Sétimo Guardião”.

D’Alma also participated in the training of dancers from major dance schools such as Deborah Colker, Spinelli dance school, SDAT, Lyceu Escola de Dança, and Espaço Triartis.
