Rotterdam available to host Eurovision Song Contest 2021

After having already invested 15 million euros in an event whose cancellation was announced on March 18, due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the council approved the additional budget to cover the costs of the Ahoy congress center, which would host 65 Edition of the festival, between May 12th and 16th, and with additional security.

The fact that Rotterdam is available to organize the 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest does not mean that the event will actually be held in the Dutch city, even if it is in 2021, as the organization of the event will still make the final decision, based on financial, logistics, but also health issues.

If the EBU and the rest of the event’s organizers decide to select Rotterdam again as the festival’s host city, the city council wants to take the opportunity to offer a special role to health professionals who have been fighting the covid-19 pandemic, giving them free tickets or honoring them during the festival.

After the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest was canceled in March, the organization announced the performance of a show, in May, with the singers who were supposed to represent the 41 competing countries this year.
