Australian duo Royel Otis presents “Say Something,” a new single from their second album, Hickey, scheduled for release on August 22nd. The track is now available on digital platforms, and the official video is also available.
Co-written by Royel Otis (Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic), Billy Walsh (Post Malone, The Weeknd), and renowned producer Omer Fedi (Lil Nas X, The Kid LAROI), “say something” is a bittersweet pop track with nostalgic melodies, jangle-pop guitars, and vibrant percussion inspired by a-ha’s “Take on Me.” In the song, we hear Otis pleading for reconciliation: “Sucking all my energy / And even though you wear me out, I’m not gonna let this go / So what do you want from me, what do you need? / Can you say something? Say something / I’m trying to work it out before you leave.”

The band says of the song: “This is a song about words that are never said.”
“say something” follows the hit “moody,” the lead single from “Hickey,” which spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart, making Royel Otis the first new project this year to top the Triple A chart. With a laid-back groove and an irresistible melody, “moody” was described by Ones to Watch as “the perfect indie reverie.”

Last month also brought us “car,” another song from the new album that was featured on BBC Radio 1 as “Hottest Record” and whose official video has already racked up thousands of views. Blunt Magazine called the song “Royel Otis at his best: ethereal vocals, subtle melancholy, and his trademark dream-pop patina.” Flood Magazine even gave them the digital cover of this month’s issue.
This summer has been particularly intense for the duo, with appearances at several international festivals, such as MEO Kalorama in Lisbon, where they treated the Portuguese audience to an electrifying performance.

The new song follows the single “moody,” released in May and co-written by Amy Allen, which was the first song taken from the upcoming album. With a laid-back sound and 1990s grooves, Royel Otis is solidifying itself as one of the most promising names in indie rock today.
