Rui Bragança wins bronze medal in European Taekwondo Championship
The fighter from Benfica, fifth in the European ranking, started the competition with a victory against Dutchman Adil Belkadi, by 11-2, securing a place in the semi-finals against the Bulgarian Daniel Ladzhev, by 14-5.
In the dispute for the presence in the final, Rui Bragança, champion of Europe in 2014 and 2016, was defeated by the Spanish Adrián Vicente, by 21-11, snatching a bronze medal in the continental competition.
In the Europeans, which run until Sunday, Portugal is still represented by Joana Cunha, at -57 kg, Renato Pereira, at -68 kg, who compete on Friday, and by Júlio Ferreira, in the -80 kg category.
The Bulgarian capital will also host the Olympic qualifying tournament, on May 7 and 8, which qualifies the top two in each category for the Tokyo2020 Games.
