Rui Fernandes on tour with Viola Amarantina

Rui Fernandes presents more dates for the Viola Amarantina tour: the musician from Vila Real has been dedicated to creating original compositions with the clear purpose of showing that this instrument has much greater capacity than the label it is given of being used only in folk or traditional music formations.

Solo, duo, or quartet, the musician is back on the road starting October 4, where he will perform at the Church of Teixeira, in Baião; he continues on October 5 at the Cordas Festival, in Pico, Azores; on October 18 he performs at the International Guitar Festival of Santo Tirso, at the Fábrica de Santo Thyrso; on October 19 it’s the turn of the Church of Pedrouços, in Maia; on November 8 he performs at the Casa das Artes, in Vila Nova de Famalicão; on November 16 he takes the stage at Espaço Miguel Torga, in São Martinho da Anta; on November 17 he performs at the José Estêvão Market, in Aveiro; on November 23 he performs at the Municipal Theater of Vila Real; and he concludes on December 22 at the Sociedade Recreativa Penalvense, in Oliveira do Hospital.

Rui Fernandes explores timbres, techniques, chords, and arpeggios, building, in each song, an enormous and surprising variety of musical moments that increased when he invited a trio of musicians: Pedro Neves, piano, Miguel Ângelo, double bass, and Ricardo Coelho, percussionist. Thus, in addition to a solo concert, the Rui Fernandes Quartet formation is born to create a concert with unique characteristics, whose primary objective is to promote the viola amarantina, contributing to the understanding that, despite its name, this is a global viola.
