The musician visited the exhibition “Rui Veloso: A Life in 45 Laps” at ArrábidaShopping and celebrated four and a half decades of his career with a show for 7,700 fans in Gaia.

Forty-five years after the release of Ar de Rock, Rui Veloso once again posed next to the car that graced the cover of his first album. The moment, which took place last Friday, October 3rd, at the exhibition “Rui Veloso: A Life in 45 Laps,” became a symbolic recreation of one of the most iconic images in Portuguese music.

The musician’s visit to the exhibition, on display at ArrábidaShopping’s Central Square until October 21st, was accompanied by the exhibition’s curator, Sandra de Barros Mateus, and many of his fans, who witnessed this return to his roots. During this visit, Rui Veloso recalled stories that span generations—from “Chico Fininho” to “Porto Covo”—in a gesture that reaffirms his legacy and emotional connection with the public.

Shortly afterwards, ArrábidaShopping once again became the stage for celebration. 7,700 people packed the venue to watch the show that marked the artist’s 45-year career. The evening began with a performance by Times of Trouble, winner of the 2nd edition of Arrábida Music, an initiative that showcases emerging talent.

Conceived, executive produced, and curated by SOTA – State of the Art, the exhibition features instruments, platinum records, personal objects, and pieces spanning Rui Veloso’s entire career. Among the many images on display, highlights include photographs provided by renowned photographers such as Kenton Thatcher, Rita Carmo, Rui Bandeira, and Rui Vasco, who helped immortalise different phases of the musician’s life and career.
