Ryan Callinan wins in Ericeira, ‘Kikas’ finishes in ninth place
Australian Ryan Callinan won today’s Ericeira stage of the qualifying circuit in a final which topped Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi while Portuguese Frederico Morais finished ninth.
On a day when the remaining rounds were held on the beach in Ribeira D’Ilhas, Ericeira, the surfer from Cascais did not go past the eighth-place finishers and came in ninth place, in a round where he collected 9.60 points, insufficient to eliminate Hawker Tanner Hendrickson, who scored 11.36.
Ryan Callinan, the Australian, started by surprising in the socks by taking the best of favorite Gabriel Medina, then triumphing in a close finish, achieving a total of 15.13 points, against the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi , which added minus 0.19.
The EDP Billabong Pro Ericeira is one of the three Portuguese stages of the world circuit of qualification and the most ‘valuable’, with 10,000 points.
