Saturday with two free concerts and four shows between Almada and Lisbon

15th July

On Saturday, at 5 pm, at Incrível Almadense, the first of two sessions of the show The Team will take place, by the company Dentro do Covil, with text by Afonso Cruz and interpretation by Rui M. Silva. The team has another session at 21:30. At 8 pm, there is music on the terrace of the D. António da Costa School with Leo Middea. At 9 pm, Centro Cultural de Belém hosts the show Everywoman, by Schaubühne in Berlin, with text and staging by Milo Rau. At 9.30 pm two shows: Calvário, the recent creation of CTA, at TMJB; and La Encyclopedia del pain. Volume I: this is what comes out of here, at the Romeu Correia Cultural Forum. To close the night, at 11 pm, there is music on the Esplanade of the D. António da Costa School with the Miranda Trio.

In football, goalkeepers sometimes reach the heights of glory, but they are also the ones we first forget about. That’s why Pablo Fidalgo chose to place one of these players at the center of his Encyclopedia of Pain. It is he who distributes the game and summons us to a painful journey but without excessive drama. The tone of the entire recital is mild, going well with the peculiar cadence from Buenos Aires that the actor Gonzalo Cunill imprints on the Castilian. This is how this catharsis unfolds, as the author explains: “‘May this not leave here’ was a phrase that mine and other mothers used to say to their cachopos. It sealed a pact of silence.” It was the cover of the newspaper El País on May 31, 2021 — in which a photograph of the Galician religious school that the author had attended was published, with a report on students who had been sexually abused in the sixties — that was at the origin of this project.

“This encyclopedia presents itself as a great exercise to list and classify forms of violence illegitimately exercised by an authority that destroyed the lives of many children. There always comes a time when a rotten city and society have to face the truth”, says Fidalgo. On that day the mask of silence falls. “Everything I hid one day, I will no longer be able to hide it. That’s why I speak, and that’s why this piece exists. This will finally come out of here”. We are facing a theater “that digs and unearths: a theater without ‘theatre’”.
