Skinless, Rick Montalvor’s second LP, is out today
with the Raging Planet and Band-it label
Human beings are built on experiences, stories, people and ghosts. At various stages of life, it is necessary to establish liberation rituals where we keep what we have learned and leave behind what we do not need.
Inspired by ecdysis — a vital process by which snakes free themselves from their old skin, marked by trauma and parasites — Rick Montalvor’s new album stands as a powerful metaphor for rebirth and healing, where each track reveals a new layer, where forgotten memories, scars and desires gain form and voice.
With a darker and more enigmatic sound, Skinless moves away from the energy of the previous record, offering us an immersive and hypnotic experience of sound, silence and textures that intertwine in a mix of sensory and emotional experiences. It’s a very organic album, as if, when listening to it, we could touch the notes, the sounds, the words…
Skinless reveals the lack of skin, but at the same time portrays a certain sensitivity on the surface of the skin. It’s a powerful metaphor for rebirth and healing!
Rick Montalvor celebrates a decade on the road with the release of his second album. Skinless was recorded at Bandido Sessions Studio, produced by Rick Montalvor and Fred Garcias, who was also in charge of mixing and mastering, and will be released on May 19th with the Raging Planet and Band-it labels. The lead single was “Psychotic Carousel” and will be released on May 22nd in Tokyo, in Lisbon, and on the 24th at Bafo de Baco, in Loulé.
More than an album, it’s a rite of passage.

Rick Montalvor – Psychotic Carousel
Ricardo Montalvor is from Lisboa and began writing his first songs during his adolescence, in the late 80s.
He presents himself with a sound rooted in Dark Country Blues, where lyrics with a strong autobiographical charge intertwine with an enigmatic and captivating sound.
In March 2016, he debuted with the single “I Didn’t Hear The Bell” on Rádio Antena 3, featuring special appearances by Synthetique and Katari (ANARCHICKS) and FAST EDDIE NELSON.
As a passionate amateur filmmaker, Montalvor combines image and sound in a creative symbiosis that shapes a unique sensorial universe, where emotions and atmospheres transport us to multiple realities.
In November 2018, he released his first album, The Highway of Regret, with the Raging Planet label, having toured several stages in the country, such as Lisbon, Porto Blues Fest, Meo Monte Verde (in São Miguel, Azores), Bobadela Vila Rock and Ebora Beer Fest.
In 2025, Rick Montalvor returns with Skinless, his second album.
