Sam Fender has just shared a new song taken from his upcoming album, “People Watching,” accompanied by a moving video.
Dave Johns, star of the film “I, Daniel Blake,” shares the lead role in the video, portraying the crushing inevitability of love, companionship and eventual loss. The video also features the Easington Colliery Band, who also collaborate on the song itself. Dave Johns shares the spotlight with actress Philippa Briggs. The video was directed by Hector Dockrill.
Sam Fender: “‘Remember My Name’ is a love song dedicated to my late grandparents — they were always so proud of our family, so I wrote this song to honour them, from the perspective of my grandfather, who was caring for my grandmother while she suffered from dementia.”
“The video is very special to me, I would like to thank everyone involved.”
Polydor Records has donated to the Utley Foundation on behalf of Sam Fender to support the ‘Music for Dementia’ campaign, which aims to make music an integral part of dementia care, based on the transformative effect it has on people living with the condition.
“Remember My Name” is the final song to be shared from “People Watching” ahead of its February 21 release. This is the fourth single from Sam’s third studio album, following the album’s impactful self-titled tracks “Wild Long Lie” and “Arm’s Length”.
Now established as one of the most talented British songwriters of his generation and the next, if “Seventeen Going Under” was Sam’s coming-of-age album, “People Watching” is his next step forward – rich stories and observations of everyday characters living their ordinary, yet often extraordinary, lives.
Last month, Sam was nominated for Artist of the Year and Best Alternative/Rock Act at the 2025 BRIT Awards, which will take place on March 1.
