Luca Argel, singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro, took the stage at Teatro Maria Matos, to present, ‘Samba de Guerrilha’, for the first performance of the album, which had music, history and image.
A multimedia show, which brought together the excellent music of Luca Argel, the history of Brazil, Portugal, the black slaves who were taken to Brazil, the history of a colonial empire, the struggle of black populations struggle of black populations in search of recognition , rights and dignity, which took so long to arrive, and which are still not complete today.
‘Samba de Guerrilha‘ featured narration by Nádia Yracema (Aurora Negra), the multimedia set designed in real time by António Jorge Gonçalves, and of course, the music by Luca Argel and his band.
This project by Luca Argel includes the album, an illustrated newspaper, and the show, Samba de Guerrilha, which includes re-recordings of sambas from different eras. Each song is preceded by a text that provides the context, in which all the songs and texts are interconnected and taking us on a journey, not always pleasant, during the show, we were hearing so many atrocities, humiliations that were normal at the time that the audience became silent and speechless, even when Nádia tried to get the audience to interact.
Each story told by Nádia is an episode of resistance against slavery and racism, cultural and political manifestations of the African diaspora in Brazil, struggles in which samba was sometimes a witness of this oppression, at other times, the way to denounce it.
