Santa Casa Challenge Extra COVID-19 wants to combat the isolation of the elderly

The contest seeks innovative digital solutions to combat the social isolation of the elderly caused by the new coronavirus, bringing together 74 candidate projects. 10 projects are now in the running for the prize that can go up to 100 thousand euros and the winners will be announced on May 27.

Promoted by the Casa do Impacto of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the contest started in April, being an extra edition of the annual digital innovation contest that rewards projects of social and environmental impact.

The Santa Casa Challenge Extra COVID-19 is dedicated especially to projects that respond to the specific needs of the elderly in situations of prophylactic confinement or social isolation caused by COVID-19.

Not only participants from Portugal, but also Brazil, Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany responded to the challenge. As for the winners, the contest foresees that there are between one and four awarded projects.

In the 10 finalists are entrepreneurs, but also companies like Altice, Glint and Fujitsu. The Shared Services of the Ministry of Health are also included here, in a contest with areas as diverse as gamification, information and staff management platforms, artificial intelligence and mobile applications linked to the pharmaceutical area.
