São Brás de Alportel celebrates Music Day with Percussion Workshop, by Vasco Ramalho
The São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band will promote this Saturday, September 3, at Cineteatro São Brás, the 1st Percussion Workshop, taught by Vasco Ramalho, percussionist, and precursor of percussion teaching in the Algarve region.
The program starts at 10 am, with the percussion workshop scheduled for the afternoon with a didactic session with the presentation of the CD “Essência de Marimba – Fados & Choros” by the trainer and launched in 2017. The program culminates, for the 17h00, in a final performance to the public presented by the workshop participants.
Admission is free, but given the pandemic situation, only 60 people will be admitted, so it is necessary to collect tickets at the Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel and, on the day of the show, at the Cineteatro ticket office, from 4 pm.
With this event the Philharmonic Band intends to provide a reunion of the teacher with former students and who are now also teachers, a fact that is a reason for pride and a sense of duty fulfilled for Professor Vasco. This is the case of São Brás de Alportel where professor Mauro Mestre is a former student who now guides percussion students at the local Philharmonic.
In addition to celebrating 15 years of teaching, there are also pedagogical and didactic objectives that aim to provide contact with different musical learning methodologies in percussion and to make known and introduce the blade instruments of the percussion family (xylophone, marimba and vibraphone) to students participants and the general public.
The Workshop also falls within the scope of the activities of the project “A Banda vai à Escola” that takes place at the José Belchior Viegas Group of Schools.
The initiative, organized by the Philharmonic Band of São Brás de Alportel – ACREMS, has the support of the Regional Directorate for Culture of the Algarve and the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel.
