The Minister of Territorial Cohesion visited the schools of São Brás de Alportel to see “first hand” the results of the National Fiber-cement Removal Program from schools, in the 1st municipality of the country to reach the goal of 100% of its free schools of fiber cement.
This Friday, September 11, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel surpassed the goal of totally freeing all schools in the municipality from using fiber cement roofs or structures, with the completion of the removal of the plates that were installed on the EB roof. 2.3 Poet Bernardo Passos and a small cover of the José Belchior Viegas Secondary School.
This moment marked the last and final stage of this journey that started with the roof replacement works for Basic Schools EB1 n.1 and EB1 n.2 in São Brás de Alportel, buildings owned by the municipality, which had already been the target of this type of intervention, integrated in an appreciation of schools in terms of improving energy efficiency.
Upon learning that São Brás de Alportel surpassed this goal, being the first municipality in the municipality to achieve this feat, Ana Abrunhosa wanted to witness this moment and see, in the first person, the result of the National Asbestos Fiber Cement Removal Program, which the government launched at a national level, providing municipalities with 100% financing and to which the municipality submitted applications for the realization, through a partnership with the Ministry of Education, to carry out these works in buildings that are not its property.
In the case of Escola EB 2.3, the coverage area to be replaced was 2,900 m2, with a contract value that exceeded 150,000 euros (155,065.35), while in the Escola Secundária the coverage has an area of only 262 m2, of which which resulted in an investment of 18,132.12 euros.
With this undertaking entering the phase of laying new roofs in the intervention areas, São Brás de Alportel becomes the first municipality with the school park totally free of fiber cement, among the municipalities that made up the national list with 578 pre-schools. school to secondary education subject to intervention through the National Fiber Removal Plan, whose financing lines opened in July this year.
