Sara Correia with Documentary “Eu Sou de Chelas” on RTP1

Fado singer has 4 dates scheduled for the Coliseums in March

RTP1 broadcasts this Thursday, January 4th, at 10 pm a special documentary dedicated to Sara Correia. In it, the fado singer presents Liberdade, her most recent album released last October, which will take to the stages of the Coliseums in Lisbon on the 9th, 10th and 11th of March and at the Coliseu in Porto, on the 22nd of March.

The documentary, directed by André Tentúgal, traces Sara Correia’s journey through the voices and reports of those who saw her grow up in Fado and become an unavoidable name in it. Family, friends, musicians, neighbours, and people who are part of the Fado singer’s journey give voice to a unique artist. In addition to these, the documentary also shows a large part of Liberdade’s presentation concert, live, on the street where she grew up in Chelas. The music and the emotion of showing it for the first time in her neighbourhood in front of people of all ages united by Fado also bear witness to the greatness of the Fado singer.

Sara Correia has, however, achieved another great feat in her career, consolidating Fado’s status as a phenomenon: more than three months before her debut in her name at the Coliseu de Lisboa, on March 9th, the venue was sold out. A second date was opened, on March 10th, which is almost sold out and, in the meantime, a third date, on March 11th. These will be the big concerts for the new album, Liberdade, which will also be presented, on March 22nd, at the Coliseu do Porto AGEAS, for which there are still some tickets left.

On stage, together with her band – Diogo Clemente on fado guitar and artistic direction, Ângelo Freire on Portuguese guitar, Frederico Gato on acoustic bass and Joel Silva on drums – Sara Correia will present a uniform and cohesive show, but coloured by many distinct colours and textures that result from subtle experiences and influences captured in other genres. All of this fits into Sara Correia’s fado, all of this resonates in her soul and lives fully in this Freedom.

At the centre of these four special shows will be the album Liberdade, which unites the traditional canon with the reinvention of this tradition through melodies written by Mila Dores, Joana Espadinha, Pedro Abrunhosa, Nuno Figueiredo, Carminho, Tiago Bettencourt and Diogo Clemente.

Liberdade, which was the best-selling national album in the week of release, is available on CD, vinyl and digital album.
