School ‘Proidiomas’ is a success case in teaching Portuguese in Venezuela

‘Proidiomas’ is a private language academy with more than 1,200 students and for 20 years has been privileging the teaching of several languages, including Portuguese, and facilitating the training of Portuguese teachers.

“We teach English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish as a foreign language. We currently have 20 classrooms, with classes between 07:00 and 20:00 hours,” explained the director.

According to Irma Brito, the Portuguese language teaching program is associated with the Central University of Venezuela and the Instituto Camões.

“For the last 20 years we have had the best relations with the Portuguese Embassy, with the Camões Institute and the work we have done with Portuguese and Portuguese culture has been very interesting,” he said.

On the other hand, he explained that in addition to the Portuguese descendants, there are more and more Venezuelans interested in learning the language of Camões, each of them with specific objectives, ranging from getting a better professional position to emigrate.

“Many Venezuelans who want to learn Portuguese because we have a large Portuguese community in the country that has integrated into Venezuelan culture and has a space among Venezuelans for culture and language. that we are promoting, “he said.

According to Irma Brito, Portugal and Venezuela are countries with “near cultures“.

“We want people to understand that these cultural ties justify closer proximity through the language. We want our Venezuelan and Luscendent students to learn to speak and to speak the language properly,” he said.

As for the requirements to study, he explained that the only requirement for students is to enrol in the course corresponding to their age, for children and over 15 years, stressing that the prices are the cheapest in the local market.

Regarding the crisis in the country, he explained that “raised areas, personal needs” not foreseen.

“In the current circumstances, the proper way to seize time is to prepare and prepare. People know that lacking a foreign language is an instrument that opens many doors nationally and internationally,” he said.
